Stay Well. Be Safe.

Our regular March newsletter featured very different topics. We wanted to thank our loyal customers who purchased over 800 Pink Cupcakes during the month of February so that we could donate a lovely cheque to the CKNW Kids’ Fund in support of Pink Shirt Day. We wanted to introduce our March feature drink which included lavender – a calming property to keep parents relaxed as they head into Spring Break. And  finally, we wanted to post about all the exciting outdoor adventures we could all enjoy as the Spring brought the “spring” back into our steps!

Instead, we find ourselves creating literature for staff members to follow in order to keep sanitized + safe during this Co-Vid 19 outbreak. We are instructing on washing hands, disinfecting counters, doorknobs, espresso machines, milk jugs….well, you know the rest. We have been posting signs about removing  tables between patrons, using disposable cups, asking our loyal customers who are unwell, not to enter our premises. At some locations, we are closing our doors.

For this reason it seems fitting instead to share a piece that is circulating all Social Media platforms. It inspires hope during this difficult time + shares a perspective on what we can do as we self isolate + keep our distance from the outside. Perhaps this piece will inspire the calm we need right now to weather the storm.

And The People Stayed Home

And the people stayed home. And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still. And listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows. And the people began to think differently.

And the people healed. And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal.

And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully, as they had been healed.

– Kitty O’Meara

Our team at Take Five Café would like to wish you all well, remind you that social distancing is not a suggestion, it is a responsibility.

Keep safe!

New Year, New You!

How about a compromise instead….
The New Year seems to be the time people choose to turn a new page. Most look at January as the start of positive changes + the end to bad habits. We put high expectations on ourselves which is further enhanced with the repeated tag line: New Year, New You. The question is, are we setting ourselves up to fail?

Change is a process. Most unhealthy habits took years to develop, so it only makes sense that they take time to break. It is hard to maintain new routines if they are very different than what has been the norm in everyday life. And besides….what is wrong with the old you!?  We think you should focus on tiny steps + compromise instead.  Perhaps eat healthy during the week, but allow a small treat on the weekend. Or commit to the gym a few times each month but park further away from your destination to squeeze in some extra walks everyday. Being too rigid in your goals is a sure way to help foil your resolutions + besides, don’t we all deserve a break now + then?

No matter your approach to obtaining your goals, we have something waiting for you.  Whether it be the five servings of fruit + veggies in our Fruit + Veggie Smoothies, or the decadent chocolate in our Classic + Toasted Coconut Hot Chocolates, the decision is yours! And if you decide to grab a smoothie during the week + a specialty hot chocolate on the weekends, we won’t tell!

Here’s wishing you all a happy, healthy New Year full of adventure, successful resolutions + compromise!

Bringing the South to You…
One Sip at a Time!

So we all know how the saying goes: April Showers bring May flowers. But what happens when January, February + March showers just brings on more showers? While it’s true that continuous rain can have some negatives effects for some, we thought it much more beneficial to focus on the positives:

              • In every movie or song, it’s always better to be dancing or singing in the rain.
              • Without rain there would be no rainbows!
              • Puddle jumping would be impossible without rain!
              • Lots of rain means no water restrictions!
              • Rain is a great excuse to stay in bed watching t.v.
              • Everything stays green!
              • The patter of rain drops is a soothing sound.
              • Rain teaches us to appreciate the sun!

And finally….when you have no one to blame, you can blame it on the rain!

We hope this rain doesn’t have you down but if it does, visit us + enjoy our new fresh roasted, Southern Italian coffee blends. The beans are roasted in a traditional Italian fashion. We like to think we are taking you South, one sip at a time!

Enjoy These Last Summer Days

When the calendar is showing the end of August, all it takes is a rain drop or two, to remind us that September is fast approaching. Add the “back to school” commercials + a morning ride that has evolved into the morning rush + it becomes quite clear – Summer is nearly over!

Inevitably, the slow pace of summer can’t last forever + while we at Take Five Café can’t slow down time, we can make things easier for you. If you haven’t already done so, it’s time to “Take Five” + treat yourself!

Our coffee drinks are crafted from locally roasted gourmet coffee beans + compliment our long list of house baked items. All panini + wraps are created from locally sourced ingredients + our meats are oven roasted in house. Add a decadent “dessert in a cup” frappini or a smoothie blended with 5 servings of fruit or veggies to the mix, + we think we have something for everyone. Do you want gluten free? We have it. Old fashioned oatmeal? New age quinoa? We have that too!

If you need a treat, visit one of our locations. You may not be able to slow down time, but you are able to slow things down in your day!

With 10 locations to serve you, we hope you find us in your neighbourhood.

Celebrating Summer at Take Five Café

At Take Five Café, we’re celebrating the sun. Summer in Vancouver is the best of everything; longer days, warmer weather, and hopefully a bit of time to ‘take five’ for yourself.

For the perfect summertime treat, stop by any Take Five Café and try a refreshing fruit smoothie. Made with some of our favourite fruits (peach, mango, strawberry, to name a few) and full of flavour they are the perfect afternoon pick-me up.

Coffee and Creativity

When it comes to coffee preferences, there are numerous possibilities. Your latte, half sweet with a hint of hazelnut. Your Americano, strong, bold and flavourful. Your Espresso, small, tasty, and with a good kick of caffeine. Like anything in life, it is our differences that truly set us apart, right down to the details of coffee.

What made us think of all our differences? (more…)
