Making a Difference

One cupcake at a time…

On Wednesday, November 29th, CKNW radio held a live broadcast from the Fairmont Hotel to raise funds for the CKNW Orphans’ Fund. This was the 40th Annual pledge day and this year the broadcast assisted in raising an impressive 1.3 million dollars! This special children’s charity provides grants to thousands of children in BC living with special needs. The broadcast is a live conversation with some of the most influential philanthropists in Vancouver who appear as guests during the day. Their thoughtfulness inspires listeners to give generously + get involved in their community. Every appearance is aimed at bringing attention to the charity and to inspire those around us to make a positive difference.

Take Five Café was proud to be invited to this live radio broadcast.  Each year, we support the campaign through the sales of Pink Cupcakes with all proceeds going to the CKNW Orphans’ Fund.  Over the past eight years, over 12,000 cupcakes have been baked + sold with a total donation of just over $14,000!! That’s a lot of cupcakes. And we can’t wait to make even more next year!

Take Five Café is proud to support such an important cause and hope you will consider doing the same. Watch for us in February 2018 when our cupcakes make their comeback! 2018 will mark the ninth consecutive year involved with the charity – we hope you’ll be a part of it.

Make Nice

A kind gesture can go a long way but who would have thought that the kind acts of two Nova Scotia teens would start such a positive revolution? The teens bought  + distributed 50 pink shirts after a male ninth grade student was bullied for wearing a pink shirt during the first day of school. This was the boys’ way of taking a stand against bullies. The concept gained traction and has become synonymous to standing up against all forms of bullying….years later the official Pink Shirt Day was introduced + every year the iconic pink shirts are sold  + worn on Pink Shirt Day.

The shirt changes each year in both design + message. But whether the message is “Bullying Stops Here”, “Kindness is One Size Fits All”, or this year’s, “Make Nice”, the point is clear…. bullying is bad + affects everyone.  The good news is that during the past few years there has been a shift in our society – campaigns have been created to bring more awareness in an attempt for peace and people find themselves being more thoughtful of their actions.

We ask that you all be mindful of your actions and invite you to join the cause. Raise awareness by wearing Pink on Pink Shirt Day –  shirts, scarfs, socks, hair pins, lipstick, wrist bands, shoelaces, earrings, ….or, the official Pink Shirt Day T-Shirt. It doesn’t matter how you to choose to “think pink”….it only matters that you do!

Visit us at any Take Five Café + show your pink. We will all be wearing the official Pink Shirt Day t-shirt + look forward to seeing you on Wednesday February 22nd, 2017.

Goodbye + Hello!

As one door closes, two others are wide open!

It’s always hard to say good-bye….which is why we are choosing to say hello instead! Our Granville Street location in the United Kingdom Building first opened its doors in 2003. Our new location is located at 609 Granville Street @ Dunsmuir. It’s just a hop, skip + jump away. It is bigger + brighter with even more seating for our new friends + old!

On July 21st, join us for a free fun-filled event as we say goodbye to our flagship location + say hello to its new location.  We will celebrate our move with free coffee, tea + treats from 11:00am – 1:00pm at our original location: 429 Granville Street.

After July 21st, continue visiting with your favourite baristas + enjoying your favourite Take Five items – just a 3 minute walk away. Or visit us at 999 West Hastings (Axa Place) where delicious food + drinks are waiting too!
